Salem YMCA

Lifeguards and Swim Instructors

  • Status: Part-Time, Hourly and Seasonal Full Time, Hourly

  • Location: Salem YMCA
  • Description: Individuals can work up to 35 hours a week. 
Under the direction of the Aquatic Director, the lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety and well being of all patrons in the aquatic area. While on duty, a lifeguard has a legal and moral obligation to take action to protect all swimmers and patrons in the aquatic area and to respond to emergencies per YMCA protocols.. 
  • Requirements: Lifeguard: Must hold current certifications in Lifeguard, Pro CPR, First Aid and Oxygen. Must be able to maintain alertness and rescue-ready position for duration of shift. Must maintain active scanning of the pool and surrounding areas. Must demonstrate the values of the YMCA and take pride in the community we serve. 
Swim instructors do not need a competitive swim background or lifeguard certification but a basic knowledge of strokes and ability to swim is required.

Gymnastics Instructor

Group Leader, Afterschool Program

  • Status: Part-Time, Hourly, Hours 2:00 – 6:00 pm; Monday – Friday (minimum of three days)

  • Description: The Group Leader will be responsible for general supervision of students. Planning and implementing after school activities for EEC licensed program for students in grades K-6. Must work well with children and parents.
  • Requirements: Must be at least 18 years old and have at least 6 months experience in an after school program.

Adaptive Camp Coordinator

  • Status: Part-Time, Hourly
  • Location: Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA
  • Description: Camp Sunrise is a fully-inclusive program for individuals with physical, cognitive, sensory, emotional and/or multiple disabilities. Campers will have fun participating in drama, arts and crafts, daily swimming, gym and sports. Campers are integrated into partner camps and enjoy all of the usual camp activities while being in a supportive personal environment. These camps feature very low staff to camper ratios and specially trained staff. 
     
    - Using adaptations to assist in communication with children.
    - Communicating with parents.
    - Helping all children to abide by the same general camp rules, with
       some flexibility based on individual needs.
    - Matching campers with counselors. Attention is paid to creating a
       "good match," personality wise, between counselors and the children
       with special needs.
    - Supporting counselors who have a child with disabilities in their group
       in ways such as:
       1. Pre-camp training (for all counselors and camp staff).
       2. Provide information on campers fro adaptive counselors.
       3. Providing an extra counselor for support, when needed.
       4. Assist adaptive counselors with problem situations (following the
           discipline plan)
  • Requirements: At least 20 years of age; 2 years experience working with children with disabilities and or college classed in Special Education; Experience supervising children with disabilities during recreational and educational activities.

Youth Sports and Gymnastics Program Assistant

  • Status: Part-Time, Hourly
  • Location: Cape Ann YMCA
  • Description: Teach classes in either sports or gymnastics- depending on candidate’s background.  Must be able to teach at least 6 hours a week. Develop marketing pieces for sports and gymnastics program. Conduct session based observations on sports and gymnastics program to ensure quality is being offered. Assist with parent communication on an ongoing basis with parents involved in programs. Assist with League coordination throughout the year. Coordinate Sports and Gymnastics birthday parties; provide the guests with a high level experience. Assist Senior Program Director in special events throughout the year. Have a good working relationship with the Senior Program Director and other YMCA Professional Staff members.
  • Requirements: Ideal Candidates will possess experience working with kids ages 2-12, love for either sports or gymnastics and willing to teach classes and programs, experience using Microsoft excel, publisher and word, communication skills both oral and written, and flexibility and able to keep organized in a changing work environment.

Swim Team Coaches

  • Status: Part time
  • Location: All YMCAs
  • Qualifications: The North Shore YMCA, with branches in Haverhill, Ipswich, Cape Ann, Beverly, Salem and Marblehead, is looking for part time swim coaches for our Senior groups, Age groups & Novice level groups. We are a competitive Swim Team for athletes ages 5 and up, of various levels. In order to be considered for this position, you must be available Monday-Friday evenings, as well as Saturday morning and occasional weekend meets.
  • Requirements: Candidates should have swim coaching experience, knowledge of stroke technique, good communication skills, and a can do attitude. Coaches should have or be willing to obtain CPR & First Aid certifications. It is encouraged that they also possess a current Lifeguarding certification or have completed the Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches. ASCA certification and YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming is preferred, or must be obtained during the first year of hire. Competitive swimming experience is preferred but not required.

Housing Facilities Manager

Reporting to the Housing and Facility Director, the facility manager is responsible for the care and upkeep of our housing units in Beverly to positively impact the lives of individuals and families in our community. Afterschool Enrichment Staff: Photography

  • Description: The Y is looking for after school enrichment instructors for beginner photography for middle school students. Enrichment courses run once a week at the end of the school day.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM GROUP LEADER

  • Status: Part-Time, Hourly, Hours 1:45 – 6:00 pm, Monday – Friday, must be available at least 3 afternoons per week.
  • Location: Greater Beverly YMCA
  • Description: This position will be responsible for general supervision of students in after school programs. Must have great written and verbal communication skills and be detail-oriented. Applicant will be responsible for planning and implementing curriculum for students in grades Kindergarten – 5th grade.  Activities may include homework help, gym and outside activities, group enrichment, arts & crafts and STEM projects. Applicant must be knowledgeable with EEC regulations. The After School Program Group Leader will display and encourage caring, responsibility, honesty and respect in the development of curriculum and in all actions in the program.
  • Requirements: Applicant must be at least 18 years old and meet one of the three requirements:  have a Bachelor’s Degree or an Associate’s Degree and have at least 3 months working with school age children; or have a high school diploma and 6 months working with school age children (in an after school program); or have 9 months working with school age children at an afterschool program.  Applicant must be First Aid and CPR certified; training available.

Youth & Family Coordinator

  • Location: Greater Beverly YMCA
  • Description: The Youth & Family Coordinator is responsible for providing the highest quality service in a visible, front line role.  This role is designed to enhance relationship building with current and prospective participants. This role will functionally assist with and report directly to the Youth & Family Director.
  • Responsibilities: Schedule Adaptive Programs (including but not limited to) Out & About trips/event every Friday night and Adaptive Boot Camp every Tuesday 3-5pm. Secure use of YMCA of the North Shore van, bus and/or meeting space needed for approved programs. On Site Lead Staff for Adaptive staff for Out & About and Boot Camp. Schedule Homeschool Program in coordination with other departments ensuring adequate space for registered members. Ensure Homeschool participant paperwork is accurate. On Site Lead Staff for Homeschool program every Thursday 9:30am-2pm.  Program would then have 3 staff, allowing for 10 more participants to enter the program. Advertise the Youth & Family department by creating session Youth & Family bulletin board, flyers and maintaining/updating program shells. Maintain and purchase supplies for Youth & Family programs. Responsible for distributing After School Enrichment registration forms to each of the five Beverly elementary schools and pick up completed registration forms from the schools in a timely manner per direction of the Youth, Family & Camp Director. Deliver the After School Enrichment program rosters to each of the five Beverly elementary schools in a timely manner per direction of the Youth, Family & Camp Director. Act as support staff in planning, advertising, and staffing various YMCA Youth & Family special events including but not limited to Family Movie Nights, Halloween Spooktacular, Healthy Kids Day and the Valentine’s Day Dance, and any new events created throughout the year.

After School Group Leader

  • Status: Part time
  • Location: Haverhill YMCA
  • Description: Part time Group Leader for the before school and after school program. Hours are 6:30 AM-9:00 AM and 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM working in an EEC Licensed Child Care Program.
  • Requirements: 1. Must be 18 years of age, have a minimum of 3-9 months (varies with the type of degree you have earned) of supervised experience working at a school age program.  
    2.Must show willingness to learn about children's growth and development and be able to apply this understanding to appropriate activities.

After School Site Director

  • Status: Part time
  • Location: Haverhill YMCA
  • Description: Part Time Site Coordinator for the before school and after school program. Hours are 6:30 AM-9:00 AM and 2:00 PM- 6:00 PM working in an EEC Licensed Child Care Program.
  • Requirements: 1. Must be at least 20 years of age, have a minimum of 6 months- 1 year experience (varies with the type of degree you have earned) of supervised experience working at a school age program.
    2. Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of children's growth and development and be able to apply this understanding to appropriate activities.
