Children affected by cancer - either their own or that of a parent or sibling - can enjoy an expense-paid session this summer at the Marblehead-Swampscott YMCA  day camp on Children's Island  (off Marblehead Harbor) or at the Y's facility in downtown Marblehead.

This unique program, sponsored by Nancamp, offers children confronting cancer on a daily basis the opportunity to get away from the awful stress and tension of their own or a close family member's illness.  Children who have or had cancer and can participate in camp activities, as well as children whose parents of siblings have cancer or have recently passed away from the disease, are eligible.

All camp fees and reasonable associated expenses such as transportation are paid by the Nancy Bostley Memorial Fund.

Second-through 10th-graders participate in all activities and special events on Children's Island, including sailing and boating, swimming, sports, games, arts and crafts and rock climbing.  The Small Fry program provides day camp experiences for those ages 4 ½ to 7 at the YMCA facility in Marblehead.

Since 1992, Nancamp has sponsored 252 children for 21 North Shore communities to the YMCA summer day camp and Fun Week programs.  Thirty-one Nancampers have been from Marblehead, and 26 from Swampscott.

Additional information, detailed brochure and applications may be obtained by calling Nancamp president Katie Van Dorpe at 781-631-9468, or treasurer Paul Bostley, Sr., at 781-631-1353. or by e-mail at Nancamp91@aol.com.
