History
In response to greater serve the needs of teens in the Greater Beverly community; the Beverly YMCA and the City of Beverly formed the Beverly Youth Collaboration. Since 1996 the collaboration has provided guidance for our two teen dedicated facilities the McPherson Youth Center and Douglas Stephens Teen Center.
The Youth Collaboration is dedicated and committed to serving the youth of Beverly through positive alternatives to negative behaviors. Programs emphasize role models to enhance self-worth and self-esteem, while providing a safe environment to create healthy behaviors. Programs include teen nights, teen dances, basketball leagues, adventure activities, after school programs and many more!
About Our Facilities:
The original youth center was founded at Lynch Park in 1968. It has since moved to 4 McPherson Drive. Over the 39 years McPherson Youth Center has gone through multiple changes, most notably in 2006 when the YMCA secured funding for the City to address the capital needs. With the funding the YMCA was able to rehab the interior and exterior of McPherson Youth Center.
The exterior features a modern skate park, 2 outdoor basketball courts and a wiffle ball court. The interior has moved into the 21st Century and now features a computer lab with 8 personal computers. An area dedicated to interactive video games, a comfortable lounge area and kitchen area. McPherson truly is the place to be after school for teens in Beverly!
Douglas Stephens Teen Center is located on the Sterling Center YMCA campus. The teen recreation room features fun games for kids of all ages to play. The teen room has two working computers, a high definition projection screen for video game playing, plenty of board games and old school favorites such as Ping Pong, Air Hockey and Foosball. Douglas Stephens is home to our After the Bell Middle School Program and has open time in the evenings for teens to come and hang out.
In addition to the recreation room, the Douglas Stephens Teen Center features two full size basketball courts and an indoor rock wall. The DSTC offers teens from across Greater Beverly a positive experience at the Y.
