Middle School After School Program
After the Bell is a complete middle school-aged appropriate program, allowing for the security and supervision required by working parents and the fun, flexibility and popular interest demanded by middle school aged students. The After the Bell after school program is focused on providing quality supervision and enrichment during the key hours between the end of school and when parents return home from work.
Is After the Bell right for me?
- Yes – The opportunity to use a teen center that was designed by teens.
- Yes – Take full advantage of the program's open campus policy. “We're able to sign ourselves out and use the Y's pools, adventure elements, gymnastics and fitness programs.”
- Yes – There's a gym for basketball, volleyball, flag football and more.
- Yes – Teens in the program decide what the weekly activities are. “The staff allow us to make the right decisions, stuff that's fun and also allow me to get my homework done.”
- Yes – Staff that can relate to a middle school students daily issues; fun, energetic, positive and honest.
- Yes - Snacks are not just celery sticks and pretzels. “My favorite is the mini pizza english muffins.”
- Yes – Clubs like the chess club, field trip and event club, intramural club, tech club, adventure club, skate club, iron chef and more. “Clubs reflect my interests.”
Program Highlights
Transportation Our After the Bell program provides the convenience of a licensed and safe transportation in a Beverly Public School bus departing from Briscoe Middle School to the Douglas Stephens Teen Center each day. Transportation to offsite full day field trips is also included.
Staff The After the Bell staff are qualified, licensed and “teen popular.” We are devoted to creating a positive balance between a safe and enriching program with fun and interesting programs that middle school aged students are excited to be part of.
Facility The Douglas Stephens Teen Center is our latest YMCA and community accomplishment. Enjoy our two large gyms, 1,200 square foot recreation room, computer lab, lounge and a 23 x 24 indoor climbing wall!
Enrichment Programs The After the Bell program offers many traditional and non-traditional activities. Youth participants will help plan program specifics, such as snack menu, gym activities, program space and the interest clubs (music, cartooning, and video cinema).
Open Campus Policy Once at the After the Bell program, youth are encouraged to take advantage of our open campus policy. With parent approval, participants may sign out of the program site and participate in any of the YMCA's session programs or open time schedules; including the pool and gymnastics center and classes; for example karate, swim lessons, archery and fitness classes.
Vacation and Snow Days A full day program will be offered during vacation days as well as a snow options.
Enrollment Days Parent/guardians can choose the specific days that best fit the middle schooler's and parent/guardians busy schedule.
