SALEM- It wasn't quite the traditional New Year's celebration at the North Shore Children's Museum on Saturday- for one thing there's no point singing about "old acquaintances" when you're 2 years old.

But "Auld Lang Syne" aside, about two dozen youngsters- and their parents-did enjoy dancing, crafts, toast, juice, cookies and lots of other songs as they rang in the New Year. "They made hats and noisemakers," a spokeswoman said.

As a climax to the event, they counted down the minutes until, well, noon, marketing the passing of 2005 a little early.

All this took place in the museum's new home at the Salem YMCA on 294 Essex st.
