What will your child learn and develop?
At all of our After School Programs your child will learn and develop age-appropriate skills on a fun-filled schedule of activities each month. Our experienced teachers provide parents with a monthly newsletter that highlights the learning activities as well as important feedback about each child in the program. It's one way we can keep our parents informed on the learning happening in our program.

What is the experience of children and parents who enroll in the program?
Mid-year and end-of-year parent evaluations, whichhelp us to pinpoint areas of opportunities to improve upon each year, are the most effective tools we use to measure the success of the Salem YMCA’s after school program.
In addition, this year we have used the nationally renowned evaluation tools SAYO-S and APT. The SAYO S measures student achievement, youth outcomes in peer interaction, homework, and interactions with staff. We completed a pre study in January and a post study in May; all results showed that our students are improving in these areas. APT, Assessing Afterschool Program Practices Tool, brings in a team of staff to observe the program with no staff/student interactions. This tool will help us determine areas of staff strengths and/or opportunities for growth. We can look at the results and determine which areas need improvement and where we are doing well, specifically regarding staff training.
Each year, our YMCA participates in an environmental rating scalesurvey:SACERS- School Age Environmental Rating Scale, which helps us determine which environmental factors we can improve upon to contribute to the success of the afterschool program.
The Salem YMCA after school program is funded in part by the City of Salem, Department of Planning and Community Development, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
