Haverhill YMCA
Housing
The YMCA grounds itself in more than 150 years of rich history. The YMCA started in 1844 as a place for young men to stay while working in the big cities during the Industrial Revolution.
So housing has been an important part of the mission of the YMCA since its inception.
And for the Haverhill YMCA, we've been making an impact in providing needed housing for more than 100 years.
While the needs of the community have certainly changed since 1844, the YMCA's commitment to addressing community needs has not.
The Haverhill YMCA completed a renovation project at our 81 Winter St. location that provides 52 Enhanced Single Room Occupancy Units for low income individuals. In addition to providing clean, well-maintained units, we are able to offer support and guidance to those individuals who may be involved with drug and alcohol recovery programs or be physically and/or mentally challenged. For some, the Y residence program is a permanent home and for others it's a necessary and needed stop along the way to a self-supported living situation.
We are excited to begin a new project at Wadleigh House this spring. By spring of 2012 we expect to have completed another renovation providing a new building with 22 Enhanced Single Room units to offer to those in need of a clean, safe place to call home.
The Haverhill YMCA is proud to meet the needs of affordable housing making a positive impact in the Haverhill community.
