I've lived in Ipswich most of my life. Although I've moved away several times, I found myself longing to move out of the city and back home to the place I love.
Ipswich is special to me. I love its natural resources and the many cultures that contribute to its rich history. Aside from its beauty, Ipswich is also the place where I made lasting friendships. Today, I long for the opportunity to live independently in this town I love.
As a social worker, I love my work with the elderly in East Boston. Unfortunately, this work is notoriously on the low-end of the pay scale making my housing choices limited.
Those of us who choose helping professions such as teaching or human services are often unable to remain in our familiar communities close to our family and friends. I am a person who would benefit from the YMCA's Powder House Village. And there are more of me out here than you would think.
I am scrimping and saving in hopes of someday affording something in Ipswich. When I returned to school to pursue my Master's Degree, I moved in with my mother to afford this undertaking. As I pay off my school debts, I face the sad realization that my independence is farther away than I imagined.
That is why I support the YMCA's Powder House Village initiative. It meets the need for working people like me to live in a town I love, and lets me pursue my aspirations to save for an Ipswich home. Powder House Village is a need that I'm thankful the YMCA is deeply committed to meeting for Ipswich.
