Cape Ann Y
Housing
Housing has been an important part of the YMCA's mission since its inception in 1844, when it served as a place for young men to stay while working in the big cities during the Industrial Revolution. As part of this rich history, the Cape YMCA has been involved in providing forms of affordable housing for more than 100 years.
While the needs of the community have certainly changed since 1844, the YMCA's commitment to addressing community needs has not. Today the Cape Ann YMCA operates 22 single room occupancy units of affordable housing at 65-67 Middle Street. In addition to providing clean, well-maintained efficiencies, we are able to offer support and guidance to those individuals who may be involved with drug and alcohol recovery programs or are physically and/or mentally challenged. For some, the Y residence program is a permanent home, and for others it's a critical stop along the way to a self-supported living situation.
The Cape Ann YMCA is proud to continue the important work of meeting our community's need for affordable housing.
