The YMCA grounds itself in more than 150 years of rich history. The YMCA started in 1844 as a place for young men to stay while working in the big cities during the Industrial Revolution. So housing has been an important part of the mission of the YMCA since its inception. And for the Cape YMCA, we've been making an impact in providing needed housing for more than 100 years.
While the needs of the community have certainly changed since 1844, the YMCA's commitment to addressing community needs has not. Today the Cape Ann YMCA operates 23 single room occupancy housing apartments at 65-67 Middle Street. In addition to providing clean, well-maintained efficiencies, we are able to offer support and guidance to those individuals who may be involved with drug and alcohol recovery programs, be physically and/or mentally challenged, and need temporary and/or emergency shelter. For some, the Y residence program is a permanent home and for others it's a necessary and needed stop along the way to a self-supported living situation.
The Cape Ann YMCA is proud to meet the need of affordable housing that makes an impact in the Cape Ann community.
