Flexible Preschool and Youth Swim Lessons

We’ve made our swim lessons more convenient for your busy schedule. Sign up for a time that works for you and your children and we’ll get them into the correct level. Blowing bubbles, floating, kicking, arm/leg patterns for strokes, rotary breathing, diving safety skills and swimming independence are all a part of the fun. Classes will be split into ability levels at the beginning of the first class. All our traditional YMCA swim lesson levels will be taught. Lessons are 45 minutes in length and will meet once per week. We maintain a one-to-six staff to swimmer ratio for preschool lessons and one-to-eight for youth levels.

Preschool Swim Lessons (Sterling YMCA)
Ages 3-6

Swimmers will be broken into Pike, Eel, Ray and Starfish swim levels.

Beginner Youth Swim Lessons (Sterling YMCA)
Grades 1 and up

Swimmers will be broken up into Polliwog, Guppy, Minnow, Fish and Flying Fish/Shark swim levels.

Cabot Street Swim Lessons

Learn to swim in our warm water Cabot Street YMCA pool. Classes meet once per week for 45 minutes.

Pike
Ages 3-6
Tuesday at 9:00am
Friday at 5:15pm

Children begin to explore the watery world while learning basic paddle strokes and kicking skills. Pool safety, the use of flotation devices, blowing bubbles and jumping in are all a part of the excitement.

Eel
Ages 3-6
Tuesday at 9:00am
Friday at 5:15pm 

Eels should be able to swim horizontally on their front and back and float independently. This class teaches kicking, floating, and the paddle stroke. Children have fun sliding down a pole underwater, dribbling a ball across the pool, and learning boating safety.

Kindergym and Swim

If your child loves gymnastics and swimming, then Kindergym and Swim was designed for them! We have combined two of our most popular programs into one fun-filled hour and a half.


Junior Gym and Swim
Grades 1-4

Aqua Zumba
Ages 18 and up

Arthritis Class
Age 18 and up
Tuesday and Thursday at 11:00am (held at the Cabot Street YMCA)

Are your joints getting stiff? Looking to loosen up? This class will do just that and a lot more! Held in our warm water Cabot Street YMCA pool, Kathie Paschal will lead you through exercises that will help you stay flexible and limber. Class length is one hour.

Adult Stroke Clinics
Age 17 and up
Tuesday at 8:00am
Wednesday at 7:15pm

These clinics are designed for everyone, from those who need to learn the basics to those looking to improve their times. We work with you starting at your skill level. Classes are small with plenty of individual attention. Come give it a try and see results!

Adult Beginner Swim Lessons
Age 17 and up
Wednesday at 10:50am

This is the place to start for adults with little to no prior swimming experience. Participants will become more confident in the water and will learn the fundamentals of swimming and aquatic safety.

Prenatal Water Exercise
Age 18 and up
Wednesday at 12:00pm
Saturday at 11:15am

A great addition to your prenatal exercise program. You will enjoy the safe, supportive buoyancy of our refreshing pool while maintaining or increasing your fitness level during pregnancy. You’ll target all areas of fitness including cardiovascular, strength training, flexibility, abdominal work, relaxation and breathing. It’s beneficial for expectant moms with any level of fitness. Class length is one hour. Two 4-week sessions are available.

Private and Semi-Private Swim Lessons
All Ages!

Do you or your child need a little one-on-one help or are you looking for your own personal coach? Either way, private lessons are a great way to get to the next level of swimming very quickly. We offer 30 minutes of one-on-one instruction that can really produce results. Semi-private lessons (priced for 2 persons) are also available. These lessons are set up on an appointment basis we try and meet your schedule and coordinate with our pool schedule. You do not pay for the class until you and the instructor have confirmed the first lesson.
