Youth/Teen Specialty Fitness Classes

Physical Activity Club - PAC
Grades 5-8

A personalized 12 week healthy lifestyle program, developed in collaboration with Addison Gilbert and Beverly Hospitals and Beverly Hospital at Danvers, focused on increasing physical activity and good nutritional practices to establish and maintain healthy weight. A personal coach guides each participant to achieve healthy lifestyle goals. This 12 week program with flexible scheduling options is ongoing and can begin at anytime. Teen Sports and Strength and Conditioning
Grades 7-12

Use many different strength training techniques to improve your athletic performance in any sport! You will learn about lifting techniques and how to increase strength, power, and endurance to take your game to the next level. Work hard and build confidence in a small group setting ith Certified Personal Trainer Anthony Trupiano. You will earn to use free weights, suspension training, body weight raining and much more! Teens of all levels are welcome. lass length is one hour and meets in the fitness center.

Teen TRX
Grades 7-12

Safely perform tons of exercises that build power, strength, flexibility, balance, mobility, and prevent injuries, all at the
intensity of your choice. The TRX Suspension Trainer™ is adjustable for any fitness level, and the mechanics of TRX Suspension Training exercises are based on multiple planes of movement, so muscles work together to build strength,
balance, flexibility and core stability in a safe and efficient manner. Professional Athletes to the young Little Leaguer will safely increase muscular function and reduce the chance of injury. TRX Suspension Training is a great way for Teens to use a simple piece of equipment combined with their body weight to get a great workout. Class is taught by a Certified TRX Instructor for one hour in the Training Studio on the 1st floor.

Teen Weight Lifting 101
Ages 14-18

This program is for teens interested in learning how to properly lift weights for any goal, whether it’s weight loss, mass building, slimming and toning, or general strength gain! You will learn how to safely and most effectively perform many different exercises emphasizing proper form, technique, and breathing pattern. You will also learn several different exercises for each major muscle group, as well as how to put together a full body workout! Class meets on the fitness floor. Class length is one hour and meets on the fitness floor.

Adult Specialty Fitness Classes

Silver Strength
Ages 60 and Up

This strength training program is geared towards adults age 60+ looking to stay fit and healthy for years to come! You will work with a trainer to safely perform a series of exercises specific to increasing strength and stamina as well as improving balance and flexibility! Perfect for those looking to incorporate strength training into their workout routine and learn the most effective means of working each major muscle group, this program is perfect for all ability levels! Silver Strength will run in a comfortable, non-competitive atmosphere, and will be geared towards not only training the participants, but educating them on proper form and technique to gain the benefits they seek! Class length is one hour and is located in the fitness center.

TRX Suspension Rope Training
Ages 16 and Up

Make your body your machine. Suspension training is a unique and valuable training method for sports performance and general fitness. The TRX system was developed by Randy Hetrick a member of the Navy SEAL team. The TRX exercises combine functional strength, flexibility, balance, and core stability to provide an amazingly efficient workout using a single piece of equipment. With nearly endless modifications that can be made by adjusting your body’s posture and position resistance can be altered to accommodate beginners to the advanced exerciser looking for a new and healthy challenge. Class is one hour in length.

Spin TRX Combo
Ages 18 and Up

This class offers an amazing combination of intense cardio and suspension rope strength training to give you an amazing full body
work out that is sure to push you to new heights! This class will train your cardiovascular system using cycling techniques on our spin
bikes with competitive cyclist Andrew Peaslee. In conjunction with the cardio training Andrew is also TRX trained and ready to build
muscular strength and endurance throughout your entire body and core. The small group environment gives you a team-like atmosphere, but still allows for individualized attention! If you’re looking for a new challenge this is the class for you! Class has a 4 participant maximum and class length is 75 minutes.

Women on Weights
Ages 18 and Up

This one is just for the ladies! Want to enhance your regular workout routine? Throw a wrench into it and start lifting weights! This new and exciting program is for adult women who want to learn to utilize the free weight area of our facility and maximize the results of their workout. All activities take place in a non-competitive and supportive atmosphere. Your instructor will guide you through safe and effective activities instructing you on proper form and technique to get you closer to your fitness goals. Remember: building muscle will help make you toned and lean as well as improving bone health! Class length is one hour and is located in the fitness center.

RUN Fit
Ages 18 and Up

Get RUN Fit with workouts geared toward the novice runner to improve your running strength, endurance and speed. This is perfect
for those thinking of training for a late Fall endurance race. Training and topics will include: nutrition, hydration, strength training,
stretching, injury prevention tips, mental training cold weather training. Class is led by Chrissy Merritt and Jenn Fernandes, who have
successfully led and trained more than 40 novice runners from the “Couch to 5k” in the last 16 weeks!

Strength and Conditioning
Ages 18 and Up

Use a combination of all the latest training tools and techniques to increase overall strength, speed, power and agility! This class is sure to get you in great shape by training you as an athlete! You will use a combination of free weights, resistance bands, plyometric exercises, medicine balls and more to push yourself to the max! We’ll pull our all the stops to make you work to your full potential.

Rise and Shine Boot Camp
Ages 16 and Up

Get into gear with this high intensity workout! Start your day off right with a mix of plyometric exercises, muscle conditioning, and cardio. We pull out all the stops to make you sweat and push you to new levels. For 8 weeks you will meet 3 times per week for an hour each time. We do more in that one hour than most people do in an entire day! Work harder than you think you can and enjoy the results! All classes are mandatory. A minimum of 4 participants is necessary.

Healthy Back
Ages 18 and up

Most times lower back pain can be remedied with training; of the back & abdominal muscles. If you are struggling with lower back pain, weakness or stiffness, this is the program for you! Build the appropriate strength needed for a healthy back which, in return, will be a happy back. Class is led by Juliana McGovern and is one hour in length. Remember: building muscle will help make you toned and lean as well as improving bone health! Class length is one hour and is located in the fitness center.

Riptide Runners Run Club
Ages 18 and Up

This is the perfect opportunity for runners of all levels to run with people who have a passion for running. It doesn’t matter if you’re a marathon runner or have never finished a road race in your life. Not only will you be a part of a team with a great group of people this will also allow you to enter races as a team if you so wish. You will be on an email list with the rest of the group and be able to plan weekly group runs, go one the ones you can make it to skip the ones you can’t and sign up for races together. Couch Potato to 5K
Ages 18 and Up (Treadmill Style)

Want to run a road race but don’t know where to start? We dare you to try this program! This is the perfect opportunity for anyone
to get off the couch, get ready to run, and finish. This program will bring you from the comforts of your couch to the training needed to complete your first 5K road race in our very own YMCA of the North Shore Road Race Series! This highly-acclaimed program is the perfect place to start for all beginner runners. We have had over 90 Couch Potato graduates get active, get fit, and continue running races! All participants will receive entry to the road race and an official Riptide Runners technical t-shirt!

Ages 18 and Up
