As federal and state budgets become increasingly tight, funding for the arts is often cut.  The budget shortfalls leave out thousands of kids whose aptitude and interest line up with the arts.  There is overwhelming support for the benefits that arts education offers children.

Kids learn so much more from arts education classes than a specific art technique.  They learn a remarkable array of mental habits and skills that will stay with them for life:  reflection, self-criticism, goal-setting, self-discipline, sense of craftsmanship, problem-solving, critical thinking, and more.

Creative arts teach kids to articulate a vision, imagine what can be, and accept responsibility to complete a task from start to finish.  Kids who have access to arts foster an appreciation for different cultures and traditions, and experience a higher sense of well-being.

Arts education is important to today’s youth, but it’s equally important to our community.  The Creative Arts Center at the Salem YMCA will give all kids, regardless of ability to pay,  access to the arts.  We believe that when all young people (our future leaders) can find their passion, the community benefits as well.
