Salem Y

Facility Information

Originally designed as affordable housing, the Salem YMCA was first founded in 1858 making Salem the oldest YMCA on the North Shore. For 145 years the Salem YMCA has been ever changing, ensuring that as needs change the Y continues to meet its mission in providing programs and services that make an impact.

The Salem YMCA is the largest provider of child care in the City of Salem. Every year 155 children are involved in our newly opened center on Essex Street. At this location, our child care program has blossomed thanks to the care provided by our carefully trained staff. Because of this the Salem YMCA has successfully doubled the service it provides to preschool and school-aged children, making our impact on Salem significant.

Our programs for children don't stop there.  In fact, we offer a wide variety of programming options for children. These options range from fun and instructional swim lessons to winter-long youth basketball leagues to an art club for youth and teens. At the Salem YMCA we continuously strive to provide new and innovative programs at every turn.

And we have plenty of programs and amenities to keep our 2,500 adult members happy and involved at the Salem YMCA. Our newly renovated aerobics studio, locker rooms and pool guarantee a pleasurable experience for every visit. With two pools we have enough water to meet the needs of all ages and interests from swim lessons to lap swimming to water aerobics to our swim team.

So no matter what your interest or ability we have something exciting in store for you at the Salem YMCA!
