GREATER BEVERLY ADVENTURE PROGRAMMING

The Greater Beverly Adventure Department provides safe, exciting, and fun programs and special events year round.  Whether you are looking to keep your child active, or for your own recreation, we have something for everyone. Just take a look at what the Adventure Department has to offer below!


Lego Club:
Grades 1-4

Flex those creative building and mental muscles with everyone's favorite creative toy, Legos!  Class Participants will enjoy build & design challenges, free builds, social time with peers, show-and-tell, and take home projects!  Class supplies are provided by the YMCA.


NERF Attack:

Ages 6-13

Keep your kid off the couch with this AWESOME program.  Nerf Attack is all about dodging, ducking, and evading through dozens of Nerf games including:


Capture the Flag,  Humans vs Zombies,  Secret Service,  Star Wars,  Elimination, and MANY MORE!!!

So bring your toys and all of your friends for some EPIC action! Participants are asked to bring their own Nerf Dart toys, darts, and eye protection*

*Extra toys, darts, and eyewear available on a limited basis. 


Rock Climbing:


Pee-Wee Climbing
Ages 3-5

Pee Wee Climbing is a great way to introduce your child to the sport of rock climbing.  Parents and instructors assist children with climbing games and basic techniques.  parents are welcome to climb as well! All necessary equipment is provided by the YMCA.

Family Instructional
Ages 3 and Up

Climbing is a great physical outlet for the entire family.  Our YMCA belay certified staff will instruct all participants on climbing basics, and provide appropriate challenges for all abilities.  Adults may attend a free belay certification course to be scheduled with climbing staff, if interested. All necessary equipment is provided by the YMCA.

Beginner Rock Climbing (Levels 1 & 2)
Ages 6-8

Designed for participants with less than two years of climbing experience, this class will help participants set goals, build self-esteem, get exercise, and improve their climbing knowledge and ability!  Students will graduate to higher levels through session based climbing assessments. All necessary equipment is provided by the YMCA.

Intermediate Rock Climbing (Levels 3 & 4)
Ages 8-10

This next level of climbing classes is designed for more experienced or slightly older youth, and teaches participants more advanced climbing vocabulary, technique, and challenges.  Belay techniques are also introduced! All necessary equipment is provided by the YMCA.

Advanced Rock Climbing (Levels 5 & 6)
Ages 10-12

The advanced climbing class is designed for older youth with previous climbing experience.  Participants will learn how to belay, design climbing courses, and master more advanced climbing technique. All necessary equipment is provided by the YMCA. 

Teen Rock Climbing & Outdoor Adventures (Fall I & Spring II ONLY)
Ages 13-18

This class is great for beginners and seasoned veterans alike.  Participants will perform individual and group challenges on our climbing wall and our ropes course, and will have the opportunity to learn basic outdoor survival skills such as shelter-building, archery, and orienteering.

Home School Climbing & Home School Rocks and Ropes
Ages 6 and Up

Whether your want to stick to rock climbing or add some awesome high ropes challenges, these programs are designed with home-school families and groups in mind. You choose the time and program that is right for you and we'll work to make it happen.  A minimum of 4 participants per class is required. All necessary equipment is provided by the YMCA.

Private or Semi-Private Lessons
Ages 3 and Up

Can't find a time that works for you?  No problem, sign-up for private or semi-private lessons.  These lessons provide a more personal setting that allows the participant(s) to learn at their own pace.  Lessons are designed for all abilities and focus on building self-esteem, increasing climbing knowledge, and improving climbing ability. All necessary equipment is provided by the YMCA.


Introduction to Archery:

Ages 7 and Up

Discover your inner Robin Hood!  Our Intro to Archery program is designed for beginner through casual archers.  Through the use of games, demonstration, and group lessons, a YMCA instructor will help teach participants the basic skills of archery.  Lessons to include safety rules, equipment and terminology, proper stance, and shooting form. All necessary equipment is provided by the YMCA.  Participants may bring their own bows (max draw of 40lbs).
 

The Art of Duct Tape:
Grades 3-8

Enjoy the adventure of working with Duct Tape!  Our enthusiastic artist, Mike "DT" Milan, will help you design and construct your own pieces of duct tape art, apparel, or accessories.  Examples include:

                                               Bracelets             Bags/Satchels              Shirts
                                                       Wallets                   Shoes                           Pants          ...and MORE!

Materials and samples will be provided by the YMCA* 

*Special colored tape must be provided by participants.


Mountain Biking Club:
Grades: 5-8

Bring your bike, your helmet, and your friends and join us for some mud-slinging biking action! Our YMCA mountain bike staff will teach bike maintenance, basic riding technique, and trail etiquette.  Participants will also design, and compete on, time trial courses.  Class meets weekly during the Fall I and Spring II sessions.  A limited amount of bikes and helmets are available as loaners as needed.   


Wizards Workshop Magic Classes:
Grades: 2-5

Learn the tips and tricks to get you started in the magic and slight-of-hand world. Our staff will teach participants card tricks, coin tricks, basic illusions, and even how to create balloon animals! So make yourself disappear from the couch and get down here to unlock your inner magician!


Special Events and Vacation Programming:

Are the kids going stir-crazy, or maybe you just need a little time to de-stress after the holidays? We've got a couple of fantastic ways to get the kids out of the house this Winter Vacation!


Winter Vacation NERF Testing Grounds!!!
Grades: 1-5

Monday, Dec. 26th 9am-1pm
Wednesday, Dec. 28th 9am-1pm
Friday, Dec. 30th 9am-1pm

Bring your friends, your NERF Dart Tag Toys, and test your NERF skills at our NERF Testing Grounds!  Our awesome games are guaranteed to create some heart-pounding, sweat-inducing, action!  1 slice of pizza and refreshment is included (additional slices can be purchased for $1).  Participants are asked to bring their own NERF Dart Tag toy, darts, and eye protection*

*Limited supply of loaner equipment is available as needed. 


Winter Vacation Half-Day Climbing
Grades: 1-10

Tuesday, Dec. 27th 9am-1pm
Thursday, Dec. 29th 9am-1pm

Whether your child is new to climbing or has been with us for years, they'll enjoy this half-day option!  Our staff will provide participants with ability appropriate climbing challenges and we'll offer FUN climbing games like Gladiator Climbing, Blindfolded Climbing, Timed Climbs, and more!  1 slice of pizza and refreshment is included (additional slices can be purchased for $1). All necessary equipment is provided by the YMCA*. 
*Closed-toed shoes required.
 


Winter Vacation Community Open Climb
Ages: 3 and Up

Tuesday, Dec. 27th 1pm-5pm
Thursday, Dec. 29th 1pm-5pm

This is our gift to the community for supporting the Greater Beverly YMCA Adventure Department in 2011!  Come on by and bring all of your friends and have some fun on our climbing wall! Our belay certified climbing instructors will make sure you have a safe and fun experience! All necessary equipment is provided by the YMCA, but feel free to bring your own gear!
