The YMCA wants physical fitness and healthy living to be a part of everyone's lifestyle.  Our state-of-the-art fitness center includes:

  • Over 65 pieces of cardiovascular equipment to help you strengthen your heart, lose weight and feel great
  • An expanded free weight area, nautilus circuit and cybex circuit for strength training and muscle conditioning
  • core exercise and stretching area with Free Motion Machines and Stretchmates
  • Individual and wall-mounted TVs to make your workouts more enjoyable

Fitness Center Orientations

For people getting started on the road to health, the Fitness Center can be a confusing place. With so much equipment, it can be a challenge to figure out how get the most out of your time.

The YMCA offers every member up to three 90-minute fitness orientations. Let our Fitness Center staff teach you how to use all of our equipment and point out machines perfect for your workout.

Personal Training

Are you recovering from an injury? Need a little extra help to stay motivated? Want to add some variety and excitement to your workout routine? Reasonable rates make personal training affordable and training sessions are scheduled to fit into your busy schedule!

You can purchase packages of 1, 3, 5 or 10 sessions, scheduled with the Personal Trainer of your choice. For more information click here to check out our personal training brochure or email Andrew Walker, Health and Wellness Director, at 978-927-6855 x 142.  

Personal training appointments must be booked with Carrie Geary or the Personal Trainer of your choice. To register please visit the Front Desk at the YMCA.

Massage

Want to relieve pain after a workout, sooth tense or sore muscles or melt away stress? Choose between Aromatherapy, Energy Balancing, Neuromuscular, or Sports Massage. To register for massage, please visit our Front Desk or for more information contact Andrew Walker, Health and Wellness Director, at 978-927-6855 x 142. Massage appointments must be booked at least 24 hours in advance.

Speciality Fitness Classes (Updated April 7 for Spring II)

Each program session the YMCA offers specialty fitness classes. These programs introduce Members to new types of exercise, new people and new ways to have fun while staying fit.

Group Exercise Classes (for Beginners to Advanced participants)

Membership at the YMCA comes with lots of privileges. YMCA Members have access to over 70 FREE group exercise classes each week! Our programs run on the same schedule each week, letting Members organize their schedule to make fitness a priority.

Trying a class out for the first time? New to working out? We've got lots of classes specifically for beginners and any program can be adjusted to your fitness level. Ask a Physical Therapist!

Have an ache or pain that won't go away? Concered about aggravating an old injury while working out? Each Monday night at 6pm, a Physical Therapist from Rehab and Sports Medicine will be available in the Sterling YMCA Fitness Center to answer your questions. It's free and there's no pre-registration required!
