STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY IS OUR CAUSE
The Y is a powerful association of men, women and children of all ages, and from all walks of life, joined together by a shared passion: to strengthen the foundation of community.
When you give back and support the Y, you continue to strength the foundation of our community. As the nation’s leading non-profit for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y uses your gift to make a meaningful, enduring impact right in your own neighborhood.
Our Strategic Plan
DELIVERING OUR CAUSE
Our Y’s mission is our reason for being, and our Y’s vision is our determined hope for the future. More than 160 years of innovative programs and delivering trans-formative responses to urgent social challenges has produced and reinforced a set of basic beliefs about how and why our YMCA effects meaningful, enduring change. Our Strategic Priorities are grounded in these beliefs.
Impact in Action: Y Stories
IMPACTING LIVES: Welcoming All Through Our Inclusion Programs
“Swimming is the only activity that CJ looks forward to each week. He can only speak a few words but he can clearly say swimming in the pool and that is a true testament to how much he enjoys the class.” CJ takes swimming lessons at the Haverhill YMCA.
IMPACTING FAMILIES: Rallying Around Our Affordable Housing Residents
Grieving over the loss of a spouse can be all-consuming. Now imagine: a job loss, plus caring for three young children. Alan, a resident at our Y's Holcroft Park Homes, was devastated when he had to explain to his three kids how they would go on without their mom and how he would afford to rebuild their lives without her.
IMPACTING CHILDREN: Making Hunger Pains Go Away
Johnny came to Camp Tricklin’ Falls every day, all summer. Some mornings were just terrible for him. He would pick fights or just sit by himself not wanting to talk to anyone. What Camp Director, Kat Moser, learned that, without access to the school-subsidized meal plan, Johnny was coming to camp each morning with an empty stomach.
IMPACTING EDUCATION: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Initiative
When 7 year old Ben and his mom walked into the Star Wars camp, Ben was visibly upset, he wasn’t happy about trying a new camp, he loves the sports camps, it's all he's ever done but his mom wanted him to try something new. The Star Wars camp incorporates a STEM curriculum, helping kids become critical thinkers.
IMPACTING HEALTH: LIVESTRONG at the YMCA Program
Over the past 6 years, Bill’s doctors have identified and treated him for lung cancer and two brain tumors. When Bill joined the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program he had a number of physical and cognitive limitations, forcing him to walk with a cane and ride the elliptical for no more than 3 minutes.
