Our camps offer children positive developmental experiences that build confidence through skill-building activities suited to their age. Campers are able to explore creativity, teamwork and leadership in a wide range of physically active programs that influence lifelong healthy living. They also have the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor environment where they develop an appreciation of nature.
Summer Camp plays an important part in the lives of our communities’ youth as they develop towards adulthood. Children realize important life lessons and make memories each day as they learn from their surroundings and peers. Whatever interest your child has, there is a Y camp for them. Led by caring, highly trained staff, you can rest assure that your child is in a safe, nurturing environment.

Children's Island Day Camp - Descriptions
Children’s Island Day Camp - Ages 7 -11
Experience the magic of Children's Island, a beautiful ocean oasis in Marblehead Harbor. From sailing, wake boarding, kayaking to arts and crafts, the saltwater swimming pool and sports, the island is like no other day camp in the area. Discover our special Island Ranger Program. Every afternoon a camper’s choice period allows campers to try new activities or revisit an old favorite. As the day wraps up everyone meets back at the flag pole before a relaxing boat ride back to shore. By the end of the session, campers have forged lasting relationships with friends and staff and created memories that will last until they return next summer and create new ones all over again. To ensure a quality camp experience with time to learn skills, engage in activities, form friendships and build memories that last a lifetime, programs on Children’s Island are designed around a two week session. The first week is designed to introduce skills as well as begin to build and form a group spirit with fellow campers. The second week enhances skills and allows the friendships and camaraderie to develop.
Children’s Island Seal Pup Camp - Ages 5- 6
If your camper is ready to explore the island and have an adventure this summer, then Seal Pups is right for them. Seal Pup campers can explore the island, swim in the pool, treasure hunt on our beaches, play sports on the field, and get a great introduction to a traditional outdoor camp. Campers get to experience most of our camp activities in small groups and at a pace that just right for them. Cap it all off with an exciting boat ride to and from camp each day and you have a summer adventure they won’t forget.
Islanders Camp- Ages 12 and up
This teen program is designed for the older campers that want more time to experience island adventures. Teens will be able to kayak around the Island and to surrounding islands, swim and dive in the open waters, as well as learn to cook and survive in the island setting. Teens will have a say in determining their daily activity choices.
Children’s Island Counselor-In-Training Program - Ages 14-15
The CIT program is for those teens that want to develop leadership skills and learn how to work with children effectively and professionally. This program is designed train teens with counseling techniques, but the skills they develop will benefit participants in any job situation. CITs will be mentored by Island staff, train and work with groups on conflict resolution and program planning, as well as have time to enjoy the Island and activities. The first week of the program CITs are coached and trained using the same training curriculum our staff goes through. In subsequent weeks CITs are placed with a mentor staff member who works with them to identify strengths and improve weaknesses in a CIT’s skills. Teens who wish to participate in the CIT program must apply for a limited number of positions. Applications are available at the Y and on our website.

Children’s Island Sailing Camp - Ages 10 and up
Aboard our fleet of 14 foot American Daysailers, campers will learn to sail under the guidance and expertise of our sailing staff. On sailing trips to locations such as Misery Island and Brown’s Island, campers will sharpen sailing abilities and learn basic racing techniques. This camp accommodates the beginner and intermediate sailors and uses a progressive curriculum that ensures campers are challenged while still having fun.
Children’s Island Race Sailing Camp - Ages 10 and up
This camp is designed for campers who want to learn more advanced skills and develop an appreciation for the sport of sailing. Using our fleet of 420 sail boats, campers will learn advanced sailing techniques.
Wakeboarding Camp - Ages 10 and up
This camp will teach basic wakeboarding skills to help you get up on the board and have fun! Experienced boarders will be challenged to try new things. Some tubing, and other fun water sports will be thrown in for some variety over the course of the week. All equipment provided, wetsuits optional but encouraged.
Children’s Island Rangers Camp - Ages 9 and up
Focusing on outdoor skills, this camp utilizes the Island’s unique surroundings to create a two week experience that builds teamwork, leadership, and fun. Over the course of the program, participants work towards earning patches by engaging in different activities such as fort building, knot tying, rock climbing, boating, orienteering, archery, snorkeling, and teambuilding games. Expect your Island experience to be taken to the extreme.
Family Camping on Children's Island
No equipment to buy. No long trips in the car. Just pack your clothes and food and sign-up for a weekend of fun on Children’s Island with the family. The YMCA provides tents, boat transportation, charcoal grill, lifeguards, picnic tables and an evening campfire. The Island has a large pool, bathrooms, kayaks, and lots of fishing opportunities as well as room for games and kites. Come join us for a magical day and night on the Island where everyone is guaranteed an ocean view.
Family Picnic Days On Children’s Island
Did you know that Saturday picnic days on Children’s Island were included in your YMCA membership? Create a new family tradition, bring the whole family and explore this wonderful island right in our back yard. The boat departs State St. Landing in Marblehead at 10:00am and returns to land at 2:00pm. Staff are on the Island running activities and the pool and beaches are open for swimming and kayaking. Bring your own picnic lunch, grills are available to cook on.
Day Camps at the Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA - Descriptions
On site camp at the Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA, these camps have options for every child's interest in a fun, supportive environment with highly trained staff.
Small Fry Camp - Ages 5-6
Small Fry Camp is designed to provide your first time camper with a fun and rewarding traditional half-day camp experience. You can expect your child to have the time of their lives making new friends participating in a summer filled with field trips, art activities, gym games, swimming and more! Please note: to allow time for field trips on Wednesdays, the bus will return at 2:00 pm.
Explorers Camp - Ages 7-9
Explorers is designed for the camper who wants a traditional full day camp experience. As an Explorer your child will participate in more advanced athletic activities, field trips, swimming, art and afternoon S.T.E.A.M projects. In addition, Explorers will have a few special field trips on select Wednesdays. (Water Country, Canobie Lake Park, and Castle Island)
Trailblazers Camp - Ages 10-13
Trailblazers is designed for campers to start building leadership skills including planning their own weekly activities based on themes. The Trailblazers will also experience traditional day camp activities such as swimming, art and gym games. Campers develop their own unique talents as they work together to earn merit beads by engaging in a variety of activities. In addition, Trail Blazers will have a few special field trips on select Wednesdays. Some of these special trips (Water Country, Canobie Lake Park, and Castle Island).
CIT (Counselor-In-Training) Camp - Ages 13-14
The CIT program is for those teens that want to acquire leadership skills and learn how to work with children effectively as camp counselors. This program is designed to provide participants with opportunities to develop skills and explore interests by engaging with campers in the various day and specialty camps located at our main facility. Training will focus on counseling techniques and leading camp activities. Skills they develop will benefit participants in any future job opportunity. In addition to participating in regular group meetings, CITs are coached by a mentor staff member who works with them to identify strengths and areas of improvement. CITs participate in a similar orientation to the trainings camp staff attend. Teens who wish to participate in the CIT program must complete an application and attend an interview with the program Coordinator. Applications are available at the Y and on our website. This program runs 9:00 to 4:30 with an option to end their day at 1:00.
Jr. Adventure Camp - Ages 5-8
Are you ready for adventure while participating in safe, fun and engaging outdoor activities? As a Jr. Adventure camper you will learn about local plants and animals while walking through the woods, observe marine life while exploring a local beach, and get the chance to swim, climb, and discover the environment both on and off the Y campus.
Adventure Camp - Ages 8-10
If you love outdoor adventures this is the camp for you. Campers will learn skills in the areas of hiking, camping, map and compass basics, as well as begin to develop leadership skills. Environmentally Conscious Leave No Trace practices will also be introduced. The camp wraps up on Friday with a campfire safety lesson as we prepare s’mores from scratch.
Archery Camp - Ages 7-12
This camp will give you the opportunity to learn introductory archery skills form USA Archery Level I and II Instructors. Discover a love of a new sport through archery practice and games, and finish the week with a Friday morning tournament to showcase your new skills!
Wilderness Camp - Ages 10-13
Wilderness camp will give the avid outdoorsman the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills of survival. Through designing and building wilderness shelters, kayaking, ropes course climbing and cooking their own food on an open fire, campers will experience all that the outdoors has to offer. On Thursdays we will use our new skills and spend the night under the stars on the Y campus.
Pioneering Camp - Ages 9 and up
In the most intensive Adventure Program, campers will spend a full week building advanced outdoor and leadership skills. Leave No Trace Principles will be emphasized as campers learn to survive and thrive in nature. The aim of this program is to foster leadership skills, teamwork, self reliance with an overarching theme of training to be Pioneers.

Science Goes Wild Camp - Ages 5-6
Bugs, critters, tornados, and rocks! Get ready to mix-up some fun and get your hands down in the dirt! If you love science, you will have a blast exploring the natural environment around you from weather to wildlife, the possibilities are endless this summer!
Wildlife Warriors Camp - Ages 7-10
Do you love nature and wildlife? Then become a "Wildlife Warrior" and immerse yourself in exploring and examining local forest and pond life. As a warrior, you will become a leader in ecology and conservation by becoming a “ecosystems expert.” Through hands-on exploration and interactions of living and non-living things you will gain a better understanding of the importance of our ever- changing natural world.
Ocean Exploration Camp - Ages 5-6
Do you want to dive down to the ocean floor and back up to the sandy shore exploring and soaking up all the knowledge and treasures of the sea? Then join us for this week-long adventure exploring the mysteries of the ocean. Discover the cleverness of an octopus, study the lovable manatee, and make ‘fish prints’ with real fish. These are just of few activities planned for this thrilling adventure!
Marine Biologist Camp - Ages 7-10
Ever wonder what being a marine biologist is all about? Then join us for a hands-on ocean investigation as we study the many facets of marine biology and oceanography. Learn the behavior of sea animals including fish adaption, marine mammals, shark ecology and the affects oil spills and pollution have on our fragile underwater environment.
Stones and Bones (Geology & Palentology) Camp - Ages 7-10
Explore the ancient world of prehistoric creatures, fossils and other treasures! Solve prehistoric mysteries as you take on the role of a paleontologist. Through hands-on discovery activities such as identifing shark teeth, sorting out dinosaur tracks, and classifying different rock formations. This camp is for every fossil and rock lover!
Dino Discovery Camp - Ages 5-6
Dinosaurs come alive during this exciting camp where you will be immersed in the prehistoric world of dinosaurs. Travel through time to explore the incredible creatures from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous time periods. Learn about these prehistoric fossils and how these Dinos became extinct. This unique camp is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat as you learn what it takes to become a real archaeologist.
Lego-neers Camp - Ages 5-7
Put on your architect hats and hit the floor for some LEGO engineering. We will construct big and tall, large and small simple machines. Come join the creative crew for a week of designing, building and producing your unique machine… ALL with LEGO wheels, axles, ramps and motors.
Engineering in Motion Camp - Ages 5-7
Engineering in MOTION Camp Science and engineering go hand-in-hand as you do some high tech tinkering. The week will begin with building various structures like bridges and domes to create a crazy obstacle course while learning the Fundamental Forces that affect motion. Through open-ended challenges including electrical circuit systems you will get your wheels spinning as you tackle your own renewable energy design.
Engineering Ramps & Rollers Camp - Ages 5-7
Can you build a marble maze just using pipe insulation, tape, and marbles? Then put your creative mind to work as you and your team design and build different types of small-scale roller coasters. As you develop your ramp and roller designs you will learn about the potential energy and frictional effects needed to get your roller coasters completely driven by gravity.
Cooking Storybook Tales - Ages 5-7
Join us for a tasty culinary adventure inspired by our favorite storybooks. Young chefs will be excited to learn hands-on cooking techniques, try delicious and nutritious ingredients all while reading favorite storybook tales.
Cooking Around The World Camp - Ages 8-11
Take your taste buds on a tour around the world! Throughout the week, you will be exposed to the cuisines of Asia, Europe, the Middle East, South American and the United States. New spices and unique ingredients will guide you on a journey around the globe as you build your skills and knowledge about different cultural foods and countries.
Great American Bake Off Camp - Ages 10-13
Do you love baking and want to test your culinary talents? Then start brushing up on your baking skills and get ready for the ultimate bakeoff. Just like the show "The Great American Bakeoff" you will have three challenges : a signature dish, a technical challenge, and a show-stopper . Each dish made by your team will be assessed by judges and a final "Star Baker" will be chosen for each of the three challenge areas.
Hogwarts Science Lab Camp - Ages 7-10
Leave the world of Muggles behind and learn the science behind the magic experienced by students at Hogwarts. After you have been sorted into houses, your stay at Hogwarts will include exploring the real science principles behind the magic of Harry Potter. We’ll teach you all of the essentials: charms, potions, and herbology. Mix potions that bubble, ooze, and foam. Discover real plants that eat insects. Harry, Ron, and Hermoine are waiting for your arrival!
Justice League Camp - Ages 5-7
Get ready to gear up for this action-packed week as you think, dress, and act like your favorite Justice League Superhero. You can bring your own superhero costume or make one at camp. Activities include super games, crafts and super fun! Where else can you spend the day as your alter-ego superhero, meet other superheroes and save the world?
Fairy-tastic Camp - Ages 5-7
Do you believe in fairies? Then let your imaginations soar in this magical fairy-themed camp. Adventures will include building a miniature fairy garden, searching for fairies, listening to imaginative stories, treasure searching walks in the enchanted forest. And much more magical fun!
Empire vs. Rebel Forces Camp (The Science of Space) - Ages 5-9
Take part in an all-new, amazing Jedi apprenticeship program where Jedi masters will guide you through outer space exploration and the amazing world of Star Wars. Learn the physics behind the flight of starships and blast off into this fun activity-filled session while learning about our universe.
Extreme Art Camp - Ages 5-6
Might possibly be the messiest camp of the summer! We'll test wacky new art ideas, be inventive and create works of art on various surfaces both horizontal and vertical. We'll emphasize color mixing experimentation, and exposure to a wide variety of art mediums.
Extreme Art Masters Camp - Ages 7-10
Extreme Art Masters Camp Art + Science = Cool Craziness! When you mix-up art and science, you'll create all kinds of interesting, cool designs. Experiment with different, colorful substances that produce rad reactions. You will use your creativity and artistic chemistry skills in this week long camp.
Mini Sports Mania - Ages 4 - 6 (4 years by January 1st)
This sports camp provides an introduction to a broad range of sports including baseball, football, soccer, basketball and hockey in a safe nurturing and positive environment. You will learn the fundamental skills of each sport, as well as the importance of teamwork and fair play. You will also have time to swim in our pool daily. Note: Kids should wear sneakers each day to camp.
Sports Mania Camp - Ages 7-11
Campers will learn a broad range of sports including baseball, football, soccer, basketball and hockey. You'll gain a higher level of skill development and techniques in each sport, as well as the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. You will also have time to swim in our pool daily. Note: Kids should wear sneakers each day to camp.
Surf Camp - Ages 8 and up
Learn to ride the waves in this fun-filled adventure camp. Campers will learn basics of surfing, advanced surfers will work on techniques with our experienced staff. Along with surfing, children will have the opportunity to use skim boards and boogie boards, and enjoy a week of fun at Nahant Beach. Camp meets at the YMCA and will travel by van to the beach each day with staff. Note: Surfboards will be provided by the Y. Wet suits are optional but encouraged. Campers must be able to pass the YMCA swim test. This may be done prior to camp or on the first day of camp.
Mountain Bike Camp - Ages 6-11
Do you love bike riding but want to learn more? Then join this camp and get an introduction to the sport of Mountain Biking and learn essential skills including safety, riding skills, rider etiquette, trail maintenance and bike care. This camp will further your riding talents at your own pace, receiving five hours per day of riding, as well as having a daily swim time. Note: Must have mountain bike, helmet, and comfortable bike handling skills to participate.
Soccer Camp - Ages 7-10
Our camp will teach you a broad range of soccer skills. You will learn dribbling, shooting and passing through fun and challenging drills and games. While establishing stronger skills and a deeper understanding for the game, the goal is to have you improve your confidence throughout the week of camp! Note: Please bring sneakers, cleats, shin guards.
North Shore Sports Academy- Football Camp - Ages 7-12
This summer we are partnering with North Shore Sports Academy to provide a non-contact football camp where all campers will learn the proper fundamentals of throwing, receiving, rushing, defensive skills and develop a deeper understanding of the rules and strategy of the sport. As a Football camper you will have the opportunity each day to show off your skills. Note: Campers should bring cleats, water bottles, snacks and lunch.
North Shore Sports Academy Basketball Camp- Competitive Ages 10 and up
Originating from our year round Magic travel basketball programs, North Shore Sports Academy and the LvO YMCA are dedicated to running one of the finest Youth and Teen competitive basketball camps this summer. Led by Magic Head Coach Coach Andre Langley, campers will participate in numerous skills and drills helping to improve dedicated players into confident athletes. Campers will spend a majority of their week on the court however elements of athlete conditioning will be added in both the aquatics and fitness center. Note: This camp is for competitive participants either dedicated to basketball or looking to build further confidence and skill towards the sport.
Nerf Blasters Extravaganza Camp - Ages 5-11
Our most beloved camp is back! Join Nerf Blasters and become a well trained Nerf warrior participating in drills and games while improving campers marksmanship, agility, and teamwork. You will be challenged to achieve daily missions and your Nerf Skills will be tested. Do you have what it takes to become the Ultimate Nerf Warrior for Summer 2018? Note: Nerf blasters and darts are provided however campers may bring their own.
Beginner Gymnastics Camp - Ages 4-6
Bounce the summer away! Boys and girls are placed in groups based on age and ability and receive instruction on all of the Olympic apparatus including our tumble track. Our dynamic staff of experienced professionals are hired for their knowledge and ability to teach young children the skills of gymnastics. Each session ends with an award ceremony and exciting gym show for family and friends. Swim time will be incorporated 2 days a week.
Intermediate Gymnastics Camp - Ages 6-13
Boys and girls with a more advanced skill set will experience the thrill of further developing their skills. Our qualified staff works with small groups to identify individual strengths and help campers reach their highest potential. Teamwork and goal-setting are emphasized. Game time and open workouts are incorporated daily, along with a refreshing swim in our outdoor pool. Campers will participate in an end of the session gym show and awards ceremony for families and friends.
Advanced Gymnastics Camp - Ages 8-14
This is an advanced camp for our Team Level 1 - 3 gymnasts and anybody interested in joining our competitive program next year. Our experienced, highly qualified staff work with small groups to identify individual strengths and help campers reach their highest potential. Teamwork and goal-setting are emphasized. Note: *Not Recommended for Beginners*.
