MENTAL WELLNESS SUPPORT AT THE Y

We are committed to supporting our community through our program, ONEDOOR, A path to mental wellness

New Y Location Coming Soon!

The Greater Beverly YMCA and the Beverly Athletic Club are excited to announce that the Y will soon own and operate the current Beverly Athletic Club space at 7 Reservoir Road in Beverly, establishing the Edwin J. Soul Center and making it part of the Greater Beverly YMCA’s extended campus. The acquisition also includes the BAC Express at the Cummings Center.

When longtime owner Ed Soul sought someone to carry on his 25-year legacy of community health and wellness, he recognized the YMCA as the ideal fit. The pool, the gym, the group exercise classes, holistic health services, and the dedication to the Beverly community that Ed created all align with the Y’s longstanding mission.

We expect Y members to have access to the new space beginning in early summer. We will be sharing additional information and updates in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!

FAQ’s

Ed Soul, the owner of Beverly Athletic Club, felt that the Y is positioned to provide a welcoming, safe environment for people of all ages to find health and wellness, belonging, and community. He is confident that this will be a wonderful opportunity to combine the unique spirit of the BAC and the mission of the Y to create a very special place.

The Beverly Athletic Club will be closing as a business.

The Y looks forward to keeping many of the current amenities, including personal training, while enhancing others.

  • BAC members can continue using the facility and amenities on Reservoir Road while also becoming part of the YMCA of the North Shore association of Ys
  • Complimentary Kids Club Babysitting included in membership
  • Fitness experience for ages 16+
  • New equipment:
    – E-GYM
    – Matrix Fitness’ Onyx Line
    – Life Fitness Insignia Line
    – Life Fitness Symbio
    – Hammer Strength

While final planning and details are still in development, the YMCA expects to take over ownership of the 7 Reservoir Rd facility on 5/15/26. We will ensure there is regular communication with members of both the BAC and the Y on any expected changes to that timeline, as well as updates on exciting new offerings and equipment.

Yes, it will! Since the BAC is closing, members are welcome to enroll in a new membership with the Y. YMCA pricing is typically a bit lower, and includes benefits like Kids Club babysitting and the majority of group exercise classes at no extra charge.

Y memberships bill on the 1st of the month and are extremely flexible, allowing you to place your membership on hold, upgrade, downgrade, or cancel when you need to with no extra fees.

The Reservoir Road facility will remain primarily a 16+ fitness experience. As is currently the case, a drop-in babysitting option will continue to operate so that parents can enjoy the facility, and limited youth swim lessons will continue to run in the pool.
When the BAC business closes, any prior services will not carry over to the Y. All unused, purchased sessions will be refunded by the BAC. We are excited to get you set back up with your trainer with YMCA personal training.
As we align the spirit of the BAC with the mission of the Y and support consistent, enhanced amenities, we do not anticipate significant immediate staffing changes.

No, we don’t. We make every effort to keep our regular membership dues affordable while still maintaining excellent facilities and supporting our staff well. From time to time, we do increase our base membership dues as needed to keep up with these expenses, but there are no extra fees beyond that.

Once the YMCA owns the property starting early summer, your membership will include the new Edwin J. Soul Center (formerly BAC). If you have multiple family members, just check with our membership staff to verify that everyone has been added to the Y membership.

The express location at the Cummings Center will continue to operate, and we will be sharing more details soon. Your express membership will be honored at the same rate, with limited access to just that location. This membership will not be available for purchase online, so please speak with a Y team member for help enrolling if you’d like to continue on as an express member. If you’d like access to other Y locations as well, feel free to enroll in a regular Y membership online or with the support of one of our team members.

Since the BAC is closing, your membership is effectively coming to an end, and you will need to enroll with the Y. To make this a seamless transition, we are happy to waive your joiner fee and any initial payments through the end of May.
Visit www.northshoreymca.org/membership to enroll online using code WELCOMEBAC to waive your joiner fee and pay nothing until June 1, 2026. We’re also glad to help you in person at any of our 7 YMCA of the North Shore locations, and some of our membership team members will also be on site at the BAC to answer your questions and help get you started.

Yes! Your new Y membership will give you full membership privileges at all 7 YMCA of the North Shore locations, and it provides complimentary guest access at most Ys nationwide.

At the Y, a core part of our mission is to ensure that our whole community has affordable access to the services, benefits, and social connections the Y has to offer. Flexible Pricing is one way we deliver on that promise, providing income-based pricing for families making up to $140,000 per year. It’s a confidential, quick, and easy application process – learn more here.

We will not have locker rentals. Members can bring in their locks for daily use and bring them home with them after their visit.
